Working under both her own name and more recently under the label bëuy (pronounced boy), Tae Schmeisser has been exhibiting as a jeweller since 2002. Beginning her studies in Visual Arts at the Australian National University, with a focus on glass, Tae has over time garnered additional skills in jewellery making and ceramics, which together have seen her undertake study at both Toyama Institute of Glass Art (TIGA) and Kyoto Seika University, later winning the e.g. etal Graduate Award in 2008, and receiving the opportunity to be the Artist in Residence at The Skopelos Art Foundation (Skopart), Greece.
Tae’s collections at Craft Victoria showcase her natural and responsive engagement with precious metals, with playful pieces of silver, oxidised silver, and gold. Her label bëuy is comprised of striking and fun jewellery of anodised metal, which add colour and pop to the wearer, and are also handmade here in Melbourne.
