Shimara Carlow

Shimara Carlow — Silver and Gold Bell Gumnut Earrings

$165

With traditional Goldsmithing training from the Glasgow School of Art, and also from the Bishopsland Workshop in South Oxfordshire,  jeweller Shimara Carlow is now happily based in Melbourne, with a purpose-built home studio. From her workshop, Shimara raises vessels and vases, tableware and bowls, and hand makes bespoke jewellery pieces from silver and 18ct gold and precious stones.

Craft Victoria has carried Shimara’s work for many years, and her graceful, timeless designs are beautiful to look at and impeccably made. Featuring layering and detailing that patinates with time, revealing a life with the wearer, Shimara’s pieces are perfect markers for special occasions and treasures for life.

Left to oxidise with time, her pieces gather depth and oxidisation that evolves beautifully, or they can be cleaned with bi-carbonate of soda, water and a toothbrush, to maintain the bright sheen of un-oxidised sterling silver and gold.

These earrings are from my gum nut range, inspired by my first visit to Australia, where I collected and sketched gum nuts in Adelaide, at the arboretum.

Materials:  Silver cast gum nuts assembled with 18ct gold detail and hung on long slender wires, these earrings are beautifully elegant and simple.
