Pennie Jagiello

Pennie Jagiello — Hand Carved Black Bangle

$310

Pennie completed a Masters of Fine Art at RMIT, 2017, titled “Remains to be seen, worn and heard: an inquiry into anthropogenic debris investigated through contemporary jewellery objects’’. Her established professional practice and ongoing research investigates the objects we use and discard and the environmental consequences of unsustainable practices, conveyed through one of the oldest universally practiced creative mediums, jewellery and adornment. Only working with found, reclaimed and recycled materials, entirely informs and challenges Pennies creative practice, providing wearable dialogue for all that we discard, and that she refers to as the expended heirlooms we leave behind us for future generations.

‘Out of the darkness there will be light’

This series has been hand cut and hand engraved utilising discarded building materials, and recycled sterling silver. Designs have been formulated around the shape of the salvaged fragments to maximise the debris, and any further remains created are retained and kept for further work.

The hand engraved patterns reference the natural environment and our impact upon it, reflecting light when worn and therefore hope during a time of climate crisis.
