Michelle Cangiano is inspired by the meanings and power people imbue into jewellery and small-scale objects. The historical and present day ceremonies and rituals tied to these pieces are a constant source of wonder and enquiry. Her work spans one off pieces, small production runs and personal commissions. While working in a variety of materials such as mild steel, bone, silver, cardboard and stone, her favorite metal to work with, by far, is gold.
Michelle Cangiano lives and works in Melbourne. Completing a Fine Art Degree in Painting and Drawing, she went on to study Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT. Michelle graduated with High Distinctions in 2001 and in the same year was an award winner at Fresh! Craft Victoria.
From 2002-10 she lectured in the School of Art, Gold and Silversmithing RMIT. Participating in numerous group shows since graduating, Michelle had her first solo show in 2007 at Pieces of Eight Gallery, Melbourne.
