Jessica Sellinger
Jessica Sellinger— Wave Vase in Blue, 2022
Each piece is made from rough stoneware. In ceramics each clay body reacts to each glaze differently at various temperatures. Therefore, it took quite a bit of experimentation of various clays and glazes to settle on a combination which provided the deepest and strongest outcome. The shapes of my pieces are all extensions of previous pieces that I have made; representing both exploration and myself as an artist. They are forever changing, in subtle and dramatic ways, however always staying true to my found design language. It's beautiful how each piece is utterly unique, moulded delicately by hand into a wave motif. 'It's not just blue' is accurate to say the least. Cobalt is extremely striking. It always creates a whole new language for a piece and the space it will reside in. The beauty about my pieces is that they can easily turn a simple space into something dynamic with their bold and compelling shapes and forms.
