David Herbert is both an artist and teacher working in glass. He trained at Monash University and has worked consistently in the medium for over 20 years.
David’s works are both functional and sculptural, and his objects cast in lead crystal explore shape, colour and the transparent beauty of a medium that is only manipulable as a viscous molten substance. The conceptual nature of his practice is articulated by the forms that David represents, moulding and then casting packaging materials and Styrofoam to reveal undulating and organic structures that are the composition of the mundane. A landscape emerges from within the materials unearthed and is rediscovered by David’s use of material.
