Kate Jones – 'Gum Vessel Mini's', 2023

$190

To celebrate Vessels, NGV design store and Craft have curated a small selection of participating artists to produce a limited-edition retail offering exclusive to NGV design store and Craft.

Kate Jones continues the theme from her major work on exhibition at the NGV as part of Melbourne Now, Hekataea. The work explores the children of Hekate, considered symbols of protection and power. This work for The Vessel Project considers the traditions of vessels that hold meaning rather than physical content. This collection offers a limted edition run of Hekateaea Mini's! In mini, midi and tall, or as a whole collection of these three works pictured. Handbuilt from terracotta and decorated with slips and glazes.

Kate Jones is based in Naarm (Melbourne) and has a practice grounded in clay. Pottery is an abiding love that Jones returns to again and again—creating objects to ritualise the performance of quotidian acts. Throwing on the wheel offers a dropping off of mind and a reconnection to bodily ways of knowing that enrich other forms of making. Research, teaching, photography, and writing are integral to Jones’s approach, informing both conceptual and technical aspects of her exhibition work.

Kate's work is currently on show at the NGV as in Vessels, as part of Melbourne Now.

Kate is also currently on show at Craft in Jugs, view her work here.
