ZIPEI — 'Mending Echoes' Earrings

$1,950

"Mending" explores the notion of healing. The imperfections in the silver components are not deliberate cutouts but the result of casting failures - where the metal did not flow as expected. Rather than discarding these flaws, a small piece of gold is incorporated, drawing inspiration from Kintsugi, where gold is used to mend broken objects. The larger piece of gold wears closely to the wearer, rather than showing to its audience - an intimate thought, a warm sensation, to keep close by.

Zipei Summer Huang is a contemporary jeweller and artist based in Melbourne/Naarm.

Working mainly in sterling silver with the method of lost wax casting. With an emphasis on sculptural quality, ZIPEI's mission is to transform the poetic hardness and tenderness of everyday life into wearable forms. Through the process of making, conflicts and contradictions make peace with each other.
