A nostalgic journey or a reimagining of an ancient landscape. Aiming to imitate an archaeological finding or an artifact dug from the ground, I employ various techniques such as multiple firings, textured clay, and layered glaze materials. Playful and whimsical these forms are often characterised by 3 legs. The three-legged symbol known as triskelion has been used in various cultures and historical contexts often representing concepts such as motion, progress, and interconnectedness of past, present, and future. In this work, they also become the carriers of a family, migration, and cultural integration. Influenced by the colours and forms of the surrounding landscape, her work is known for its earthy palettes and textures. Now residing in Melbourne, her high fired stoneware pieces are both sculptural and functional (being dishwasher and oven safe). Intrigued by the processes of making and the nature of ceramic materials, she allows the characteristics inherent in the clay, the glaze and the fire to direct her work. Her practice is driven by material intrigue and a continuous cycle of inquiry, where each resolution becomes a starting point for the next. Over a decade working with community art centres has shaped her approach to making, grounding her practise in collaboration and creative exchange.

Em is particularly interested in the conversations that occur between objects, and the way materials carry histories, status, and modes of being. Created in honour of Gabriela's three sisters, the work was saggar fired using culturally significant materials, including coffee grounds, banana peels, and corn husks, within a communal pit-firing process. The resulting surface carries the traces of these elements, embedding memory and ritual into the clay.
