Ebony Russell is a visual artist based in Sydney. Working predominately in ceramics she produces highly decorative sculptural works.
"As a child I was obsessed with ornaments and anything frilly and pink. Cake decorating was a particular passion of mine and I longed for the most decorative cake on my birthday each year. I want to investigate how these objects and decorative processes have the capacity to evoke memories and engender a return to childhood reverie in adult life."
Interested in decorative practices traditionally performed by women she employs cake-piping techniques, amongst other experimental methods to produce her works.
Russell received the award for Outstanding Applied Arts Student at Monash University, 2003 and completed her Masters in Fine Arts (Ceramics) at the National Art School, Sydney.
