Aidan Renata — 'Woven Wall Hanging 2' in Red and Yellow Acrylic Wool and Copper Wire
Aidan Renata is a Melbourne based textile and fashion designer, specialising in hand crafted textiles. Championing the sensorial value of textiles, hand weaving and hand knitting techniques are implemented to create something precious yet familiar. Completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Fashion), Aidan is considered self taught when it comes to hand crafted textiles. He applies his training and knowledge to create craft oriented pieces that speak to the relationship between material, history, and fashion. Working out of his studio in Brunswick, Aidan sources locally manufactured yarn to create his pieces. Punchy and lyrical, the textiles created explore historical patterns and speak to the inalienable sense of time that textiles and fashion possess.
Each piece is hand woven on a Rigid Heddle Loom, tasseled by hand, and the surface design is felted by hand. The motifs explore classic textile patterns like plaid, check, and spots and stripes while leaning into a colour palette that balances earthiness and acidity.
